I recently read this play "Oedipus the King" by a famous philosopher, Sophocles. It was quite interesting and showed us "Oedipus" as the tragic hero. From the beginning he was destined by the Oracle Apollo to kill his father and marry his mother, and throughout the play we read how Oedipus does everything in his power to runaway from fate and do everything but that. Throughout the play, it shows us dramatic irony in where the audience knows something the character doesn't and is yet to find out. Oedipus, sadly fulfills the prophecy and does everything it said. Oedipus in the end can't withhold all the pain, shame and disgust and so blinds himself my taking out his eyes with his mother's/wife's brooches(pins). I think this was a great play everyone should read because it held great meaning.
